With a view to offsetting hire costs of traditional 350mm and 500mm planer equipment, Ringway arranged to showcase their Multihog machine to Worcestershire County Council to highlight the machine’s productivity and performance with the road planer attachment.
The trial witnessed road planing to depths of 50mm and 100mm where identified, with the single Multihog set to plane and sweep the damaged surface before tipping into a 12 tonne wagon ready for disposal.
The first patch, measuring 8m² at a depth of 50mm, was completed in under 15 minutes for the Multihog to plane and sweep (5 minutes to plane, 3 minutes to change attachment from road planer to brush bucket lifter and then 5 minutes to then sweep the defect and tip).
The second patch, measuring 15m² at a depth of 100mm (the Multihog can plane up to 125mm deep), was planed and swept in around half an hour.
Most Multihog attachments to the front and rear are easily changed within a couple of minutes and application functions, such as planing tilt, depth and side shift, are controlled hydraulically from within the comfort of the cab.
Ringway have a renowned record on health and safety. The Multihog complements this approach to best practice in the proven ability to eliminate risk of HAVS, reduce manual handling, minimise dust on site and low noise exposure of 82dB when road planing.
Whilst all in attendance were more than satisfied with the outcome of trial as well as the future scope for adding value with more all-seasonal attachments, Ringway are now also considering Multihog’s training packages for their existing workforce which include accredited LANTRA and bespoke Multihog familiarisation, which will ensure drivers are suitably skilled to operate the versatile unit.
