Tameside MBC achieve efficiency with their multi-purpose Multihog, which has proven popular amongst not only the highways operations team but also the Borough's residents, who had the opportunity to see the Council's new investment at a health and safety awareness event held last year.
During milder months the Multihog will be found planing and sweeping road defects to ensure a "fix-first-time" repair is carried out, however, during the winter months the Multihog is called upon to carry out de-icing and snow clearance of carriageways, cycleways and footways across the network, ensuring optimal fleet utilisation.
Now known as Bumble Bee following a renaming competition held by the Council, the Multihog’s compact size, 4-wheel drive and articulated design make it ideal for operating in areas with restricted access and difficult manoeuvrability, addressing areas which otherwise could be vulnerable to adverse weather.
With attachments interchangeable within minutes, the machine is soon on hand to carry out additional duties once winter maintenance responsibilities are fulfilled with Tameside currently using Patch Planer, Suction Sweeper, Gritter and Snow Plough attachments.
